“Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.”

Graduates were handpicked to be part of the onedotzero cascade programme for their annual festival. Working in a group of ten we learnt how to delicate, in a productive and creative way. We then presented our project and campaign at the BFI, and took questions from the audience. Our brief was utopia. Children , students, and professionals were asked to imagine life in the future.

We found that people have a different ideas about uptopia and the future. So we proposed a platform ‘The musuem of imagination’ that promotes creative thinking for a better future. Working across different platforms for example workshops, and city scapes all results are documented on the website. The musueum of imagination firstly acts as an archiving system where opinions from the past and the present are documented about the future. When asking about the future it is more revealing of the time you ask then of the future. Secondly the museum of imagination turns these ideas into some thing physical and real, for example we turned ella , aged 9 ideas into an animation.

NikeFlipper

While the NIKE Flipper functions well as a running shoe, it also enhances our swimming capabilities. The flipper would be placed on the sole of the shoe, and will be able to extend out with a pivot point type mechanism. The mechanism will be extendable when needed, and able to fold underneath the shoe when not needed. The flipper would be made from strong light weight rubber plastic, so it would not weigh down the shoe when it is being worn on land.

A cycling jacket that responds to the levels of pollution around the city. The cycling jacket Leds turn from white to red, warning the cyclists that they have been exposed to high levels of pollution for a long period of time. The primary research for this project consisted of hybrid machines that monitor one bio factor to produce another manmade element. I focused on bio sensors which are the result of biology and machine coming together. I then added the third element of developing something visual out of something which can not normally be seen.

The Hamleys Toy Tree is an interactive installation, designed for the window of Hamley’s Toy Store. People can interact with the installation from outside the window by either blowing into a sensor and creating wind, the tree responds by closing its flowers. Pressing a button to activate the sun and the tree responds by opening its flowers to reveal the toys inside.
The third sensor is the touch pad where individuals can tap the pad to create rain (glitter from the ceiling will fall down) in response to this little shoots appear in the soil.

How it works
Each petal of the flower would be connected to two pieces of wood with a hinge and a spring. A piece of string would be attached to the wood so that when the sensor triggers the switch to turn on the motor it would pull on the string. Opening the flower. There would be springs attached in between the petals so that if the motor was to move the other way the flower would fall back into place.
